From Oban

Four Oaks from Oban


From Argyll Square, start to head towards Lochgilphead on the A816, proceeding along Combie Street. Immediately before the church, turn left onto Glencruitten Road (signed for Glencruitten and the golf course). Continue along Glencruitten Road, passing Mossfield Stadium and then Glencruitten Golf Club, both on your right. When the road forks (with Achavaich signed to the left) keep following the road to the right. Pass under the railway bridge (max height 11′ 6" / 3.5m) and head up, passing a small lochan, Luachrach Loch, on your left and then with Glencruitten House Woods on your right. The road will dip and come to a T junction, turn left (signed Connel), proceed on the single track road for approx 0.5 mile (800m), then look for the Four Oaks gate and track on your right.
NB Please close the gate behind you as there are usually sheep or other livestock in the field. As you approach the house there is a second gate then guest parking is on the right.

 

From Connel

Four Oaks from Connel

On the A85, heading towards Oban, with Loch Etive on your right. After passing under the Connel bridge, at the Oyster Inn turn left (signed for Fort William and the Airport), then almost immediately and before the bridge take the next right (signed Barran). Go over a cattle grid and then pass under the railway bridge (max height 13′ / 4m). From the railway bridge proceed on the single track road for approx 2.6 miles (4km), then look for the Four Oaks gate and track on your left.
NB Please close the gate behind you as there are usually sheep or other livestock in the field. As you approach the house there is a second gate then guest parking is on the right.

 

From South

Shortest route if travelling up from Kennacraig or Tarbert (distances and detail from Kilninver)

On the A816, head North towards Oban. Loch Feochan will be on your left as you pass through Knipoch and with the Knipoch Hotel on your right. Once you come into Kilmore, proceed till you see a house on your left at which take the right turn, signed to Barran. As you pass the turn off for Barran, stay on the road for Connel. Views across Loch Nell will open up to your right. Follow the road around the bottom of the loch and up around the side (narrow in some places). The road drops down again and you will pass a turn off on the right for Taynuilt (via Glen Lonan), stay on the road for Connel. You will pass a turn off on your left for Oban, again stay on the road for Connel. Proceed on the single track road for approx 0.5 mile (800m), then look for the Four Oaks gate and track on your right.

On foot?

                       

If you are arriving by train, yacht, seaplane or as a ferry foot passenger then there is a taxi rank just outside the Oban train station. Or we will be happy to pick you up, subject to timing. For guests travelling by train we can pick up and drop off at Connel Ferry station.
