When and for how long can I book?
Four Oaks is open for the whole year, with the exception of a short period over Christmas and the New Year.
Bookings can be made for short stays from 1 to 28 nights, however during busy summer periods there is a minimum stay of 2 nights or more.
The earliest you can book is for arrival the next day (booking cut-off time is late afternoon). The latest you can book is for stays up to a year ahead.
Each room can be booked for single or double occupancy. (When booking for a groups of 3, first search for 2 guests, select the first room, then change the search to 1 guest before selecting the second room. Once both rooms are listed with the correct total number of guests proceed with the Book button.)
Discounts are often available for longer stays of 4 nights or more, where applicable the offer price will be shown automatically at room selection.
How do I make a booking?
On each page below the menu there is a Check Availability button, this lets you see which rooms are available on which dates and the associated room rates.
Select your preference for dates and number of people, then select the room or rooms (if your room preference is not available you can use the Show Available Dates option to see alternatives).
Select Book to proceed, then select any extras (e.g. use of EV car charger etc) or Skip Extras.
After that fill in your contact details to complete the booking.
Please enter your planned arrival time if you can (we understand this may be uncertain).
Confirm the Terms and Conditions (a summary is shown on screen, you can read the full Four Oaks Terms and Conditions here).
The Payment Details screen will appear.
Please complete your card details to make payment via Stripe.
Confirm your payment in your banking app if prompted to do so (3DS Authentication).
You will be sent a confirmation email with your unique booking reference.
When making an online booking payments are processed through Stripe.
Supported card types include Visa, Mastercard and American Express along with many others such as Discover and Diners Club (we hope to add Cartes Bancaires).
Stripe also supports wallet payments via Google Pay, Apple Pay and Link, when using a device with one of these apps.
If you prefer to pay via bank transfer this is ok but means a booking will need to be created manually. To do this please email with a booking request, including your name, full address, contact email and phone number, arrival and departure dates and room choice. You will be emailed an invoice with details on how to pay.
Do you have a contact phone number?
We don't have a landline and the house is so well insulated that it can block mobile phone signals. There is a mobile number that is shown when booking but it relies on WiFi calling when we're in the house and may often go to voice mail. For this reason the easiest way to get hold of us is usually by email or WhatsApp.
Check in 16:00 to 18:00.
Breakfast 08:00 to 09:00 (those needing a prompt start can request an early breakfast from 07:00).
Check out by 10:00.
If you need a late check in (say due to a ferry or flight etc) this is normally possible, by arrangement, please just contact us in advance to confirm.
What is your short-term let (STL) licensing status?
The Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (Licensing of Short-term Lets) Order 2022 requires bed and breakfasts in Scotland to be licensed.
Four Oaks Bed and Breakfast licence number is AR00576F, EPC Rating A, maximum guests 4.
What is the Visitor Levy status?
Based on the provisions of the Visitor Levy (Scotland) Act 2024, Argyll and Bute Council had planned to introduce a Visitor Levy Scheme. This was to introduce an additional percentage charge of 5 percent but the council have now put the idea on hold and may revisit it when and if the legislation is updated to allow for a flat fee charge.
We will update this information as Argyll and Bute Council release more details.
Do you have laundry facilities?
Sorry, we don't have any guest laundry facilities.
We suggest using the Mandarin Laundry service located on John Street, Oban. They offer a same day service and can even deliver your completed wash to Four Oaks.
NB They are not open at weekends.
Do you welcome cyclists?
Yes, we very much welcome cyclists.
We are in an ideal place, being located on National Cycle Network 78, known as The Caledonia Way which runs 234 miles from Campbeltown to Inverness, through some amazing scenery, including the beautiful Glen Lonan.
Bicycles can be left in our locked garage for secure keeping overnight.
Can I charge my electric or plug-in hybrid car?
Yes, we have a 7kw EV charger. You will need a cable with a standard Type 2 (IEC 62196 / Mennekes) connector to use the charger. There will be a fee depending on usage. As we have two rooms but only one EV charger please let us know if you plan to use it when booking to avoid disappointment.
